Human Rights & Inclusion Committee outlines Pride flag raisings, library party and Juneteenth celebration

Paul Pollack and Lieutenant Rob Sullivan, liaisons to the Human Rights & Inclusion Committee (HRIC), briefed the Select Board on upcoming June events organized or supported by the committee.
Paul Pollack said a library flag-raising and community party is planned for Saturday; if weather forces cancellation the committee would move the outdoor events to Maple Street Church. Pollack also said a smaller flag-raising will take place at the police station on Thursday at 5 p.m., described as a kickoff to broader Pride activities.
Lt. Rob Sullivan, who represents the police department on the HRIC, said the Pride programming is inclusive and open to everyone. He described past engagement by officers and the department’s plans for community outreach during the events, including a community art project that drew broad public participation last year. He urged residents to attend and stressed that the events are intended to build relationships between public safety and community members.
Pollack also announced that the committee will hold a Juneteenth celebration on Tuesday, June 17 at 2 p.m. at Town Hall (the committee had noted that June 19 is the national holiday but Town Hall is closed that day). Board members and committee representatives encouraged residents to attend and noted the events are inclusive and family friendly.
