A Springville resident raised safety and neighborhood concerns about a proposed roundabout on Center Street and asked the city to dredge the pond at Artwing Park.
At the public comment period, Chad Kidder said residents are worried a roundabout on Center Street would not reduce risk to schoolchildren unless pedestrian crossings are moved away from the roundabout; he asked the city to do outreach, especially with the two charter schools he named (Reagan and Merritt), to build buy-in and to avoid traffic backups onto 1200 West during school drop-off and pick-up.
Kidder also asked the city to address sediment and plant overgrowth in the Artwing Park pond, saying cattails now cover roughly one-third to one-half of the pond and that, at the current rate, there may be no pond within a year.
City staff responded during the meeting. A staff member said the public works director and the city engineer had heard the concerns and that staff will contact neighborhoods as major projects are prepared; outreach tools listed included website notices, door hangers and mailers. Council and staff emphasized they will follow the city’s outreach policy, which includes multiple notification methods, and invited Kidder to speak with staff after the meeting for follow-up.
No formal action was taken during the meeting; staff indicated follow-up outreach and maintenance evaluation would occur.
