City staff reports: Clark Building energized, South Park irrigation near completion; Kings event withdrawn

The Community Resources Director updated the Parks, Recreation and Community Resources Advisory Commission on several facility and event items during the June 3 meeting.
Staff said Southern California Edison has energized the Clark Building; city and county inspections remain and staff is targeting completion by mid-June, followed by a small opening celebration. The South Park irrigation project is 95% complete, with staff targeting mid-July for substantial completion; once planting is finished there will be a 90-day establishment period during which temporary fencing will protect the new plantings.
Staff also told commissioners the Marbles in the Jar film premiere (a staff-approved impact level 2 event) was approved by City Council on May 13 and will take place June 6 at the Community Theater and Courtyard. The commission was informed that the LA Kings event organizers withdrew their request for 2025 after losing Coca-Cola sponsorship; staff said organizers hope to reapply next year if they secure funding.
Staff said they are finalizing a date for a ribbon-cutting and naming ceremony for improved Green Belt access and noted that Valley Park bathrooms have been refurbished. The commission asked staff to pass appreciation on to Public Works for the restroom work.
