Thurston County advances board appointments, Veterans Advisory Board removal and salary commission ordinance edits to business meeting

Clerk staff said, after cross-referencing the county’s roster, removal of the cited member would leave three open Veterans Advisory Board seats. Davis confirmed both appointment recommendations could be included on the June 17 business-meeting consent agenda.
Separately, commissioners discussed the salary commission ordinance. Staff said Human Resources and the county attorney’s office have prepared an updated ordinance and will send the revised language by email to commissioners this week. The updated ordinance text will explicitly dedicate one seat on the salary commission to an organized-labor representative and align the remaining seats with the RCW language staff described as related to personnel fields; the revised ordinance will then be scheduled for formal approval on a future agenda, after which staff will proceed with appointment outreach based on the adopted language.
Other items flagged for second review during the agenda-setting session included the Chehalis Western Trail Preservation Project Phase 1 local agency agreement; staff said they added the dollar amount to the motion at the board’s request so commissioners have a sense of the project scale.
