Aberdeen council schedules June 6 canvass; vacancy in Southwest District could be filled

City Manager Robin told the City of Aberdeen Council on June 2 that the mayor will call a special meeting for 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, in the Brown County Commissioners meeting room to canvass the results of local elections.
Robin said the special meeting will include canvassing duties related to the election held the following day. If the election yields a clear winner for the Southwest District and at least six council members attend the canvass meeting, the council could administer the oath and seat the winner at that meeting, Robin said. If a quorum is not present for that action it may be deferred.
Mayor Schoneman confirmed the time and location. Council members on record discussed likely attendance and staff said the canvass will proceed in accordance with statutory procedures and the council’s standard canvassing agenda.
