The Iredell County Board of Commissioners called for a public hearing on a request by Jeffrey and Susan Altrey to release zoning and subdivision jurisdiction (extraterritorial jurisdiction, ETJ) for a single lot to the Town of Mooresville.
Matthew Todd, planning staff, said the town raised the request after discovering a member of its historic preservation commission did not live within the town’s jurisdiction and that releasing jurisdiction over the single house at the end of a cul‑de‑sac would allow that resident to continue serving. Todd said the parcel abuts Mooresville’s jurisdiction and that a handful of other lots on the same west side of the neighborhood are already within Mooresville’s zoning jurisdiction.
A commissioner asked whether the jurisdiction release could be conditioned to return to county jurisdiction if the property were sold; Todd said once the county releases jurisdiction the change is permanent and does not automatically revert upon a subsequent sale. Commissioners approved calling for the public hearing by consent; the town’s request and the public record will be considered at the scheduled hearing.
