William (Bill) Cook, identifying himself as an Indian Springs resident, told council the gate is closed from Friday afternoon until Monday morning and said he knows of at least one driver who struck the gate and multiple occasions when fire crews had to cut a lock to gain access during emergencies. Cook said the gate shifts neighborhood traffic to one route for residents and raised response‑time and safety concerns for people with medical emergencies.
City staff listened and said the gate installation and operating hours were part of traffic‑mitigation measures connected to sports‑complex events; staff said they would note the concern on the public record and that the city’s public‑safety and operations teams would follow up. Councilors did not take immediate action and encouraged staff to investigate the emergency‑access claims and report back.
