Scope and procurement: the annual resurfacing covers approximately 1.7 miles of streets including Shady Lane, Evans Avenue North, Mambin Drive North, Burgundy Avenue and Court, Shadowwood Loop, Amy Lane, Leprechaun Court, Blarney Stone Court and River Rock Drive NE. The project includes resurfacing and replacement of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramps where they do not meet current standards; on a few streets the ramps already meet current standards and will not need replacement.
Bids were received through a formal competitive process; the lowest responsive bid to K & L Industries was substantially lower than the engineer's upper estimates and will allow the work to proceed during the summer paving season.
Why it matters: pavement resurfacing affects ride quality, drainage and long-term street preservation. Staff said additional funding would increase the number of lane miles the city can maintain each year and urged steady investment to avoid accelerated deterioration.
