Porterville staff outline upgrades and code triggers for Byrd School District facility at 1924 S. Newton St.

City of Porterville staff reviewed the Byrd (Burns) School District's proposed maintenance and transportation use for a property at 1924 South Newton Street during the Project Review Committee on March 5 and identified several code and utility upgrades that will be required if the district proceeds with the purchase and remodeling.

Planning staff said the work described by the applicant is limited to interior remodels (office spaces and restroom upgrades) but noted standards for outdoor storage: any outdoor storage areas must be screened from adjacent properties and surfaced with paving if required by the city engineer. Planning staff pointed to design standards in Porterville Development Code Section 300.13 for trash enclosures and suggested screening options such as privacy slats on existing chain-link fencing.
