The chair of the Dare County Board of Elections told members at the May 29 meeting that he will not remain on the board after June 1 and asked Randy, the board secretary, to chair the June meeting until a new chair is selected. The outgoing chair offered brief remarks thanking board members for their work together and urged members to "remember your oath to the constitution." Board members thanked him for his leadership and said he will be missed.
The chair did not provide a formal resignation letter during the meeting; board members said they have sought guidance from the State Board regarding interim leadership but had not received formal direction, so the chair asked the board to proceed by consensus for June.
