County staff previews subdivision and conveyance of two county‑owned parcels to town of Pittsboro
Summary
Staff informed the board of intent to subdivide two county parcels — a small parking portion of Courthouse Square and a roughly 2.4‑acre parcel at the school central services site — and to convey the latter to the Town of Pittsboro for public recreation use. No binding action was taken; staff will return with a resolution and plat.

County property and public‑works staff briefed the board on a planned subdivision and subsequent conveyance of county‑owned parcels.
Brian Thompson (Assistant County Manager) described two parcels under review: small portions of Courthouse Square split by the traffic circle that are currently used for parking, and a roughly 2.4‑acre shaded area behind the former central school services parcel containing a ball field and fenced maintenance area. The staff report recommended subdividing the small Courthouse Square parcels and a conveyance of the 2.4‑acre school‑adjacent parcel to the Town of Pittsboro to support municipal recreation and maintenance operations. Pittsboro staff told the board the parcel would allow the town to store equipment and better operate adjacent athletic and recreation facilities that are currently county‑owned.
Thompson emphasized the presentation was an initial check‑in; the board must still approve a formal conveyance resolution and staff will undertake surveying and platting work before returning with the final documents. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about historic district markers near Courthouse Square and the exact property lines near the ball field; staff said they would confirm details and bring a resolution and draft subdivision plat back to the board for formal action.
