And that is where we will formally ask for the board's support for this project,” Gwen said.
A board member who spoke with nearby apartment residents said the group is generally supportive of the shared use of the library and senior center but is concerned about what happens after hours and said the matter may be controversial. “I think is gonna be a little bit controversial,” the member said, adding that apartment residents may attend the library board meeting to speak to their concerns.
Board members discussed options for hearing public comments and noted there is no specific required action by the board at this stage beyond listening and collecting input. The chair described a plan to present the design, hear public comment, and then ask board members to state whether they support the design at the end of the public comment period.
Board members asked about mitigation and engagement with community groups. Gwen noted that outside the building the library has limited direct control and that other community‑based groups could be engaged if concerns persist. No final decision was made; staff will return with the full design, cost estimate and a request for the board's recommendation, and will also present to the Parks and Recreation Board.
