Planning commission continues hearing on proposed banquet hall at shopping center, asks staff to return with conditions

The Jurupa Valley Planning Commission on May 28 continued a public hearing on MA 24088, a site development permit application to convert a unit in a shopping center near Limonite Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard into a banquet hall, and directed staff to bring a resolution with recommended conditions to the commission’s June 11 meeting.

The applicant, George Padilla, told the commission the venue would host social and corporate events, including weddings and birthday parties, for up to 175 attendees and said he would not supply or sell alcohol; if alcohol is present it would be provided by a licensed, bonded vendor and cut off at least one hour before the event ends. “We will not provide or sell alcohol. If requested, will be done by a licensed, bonded and insured company,” Padilla said.

Why it matters: Commissioners pressed staff and the applicant on traffic circulation, parking, noise for neighboring homes and operational details such as hours, security and vendor vetting — items the commission expects to see reflected in conditions of approval before a final vote.
