The Waukesha City Finance Committee unanimously approved a lease for a vehicle assigned to a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force officer, a staff member said.
Lieutenant Ian Dikarski, a lieutenant with the Waukesha Police Department, told the committee the lease is covered by the HIDTA grant. “It’s about $6,000 per year that goes towards that vehicle,” Dikarski said, adding the city budgets $500 per month. He said the lease costs come in below $500 per month so “it would cost the city no money in the end.”
The item was presented during the committee's May meeting as a renewal: Dikarski said the officer’s prior three-year lease is expiring and the new lease would replace the Toyota Venza currently in use.
Committee members asked clarifying questions about who reimburses the lease and whether multiple vehicles were involved. The chair asked, “Just remind us is that… reimbursed by the feds or the state?” Dikarski replied, “The feds.” Alderson Molson asked whether the paperwork showed two cars; Dikarski said it was just one car — the outgoing vehicle and the replacement car appearing on the lease document.
The committee moved and seconded approval; the chair called for a voice vote and the motion passed unanimously.
The committee record shows the lease will be funded from the HIDTA grant and reimbursed to the city; committee members did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes.
