Nevada Commission approves minutes, payments and final FY2026 budget

The Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the VNT Railway unanimously approved the minutes from its April 23, 2025, meeting, authorized checks payable for March and adopted the commission's final fiscal 2026 budget after a public-comment opportunity required by state law.
Commission Chair Peterson called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m. and after public comment yielded no speakers, the commission took up routine financial business. A motion to approve the minutes of April 23, 2025, was made and seconded and carried unanimously. Commissioners then voted to approve $37,593.01 in checks payable for March; that motion also passed unanimously.
The commission reviewed an adjusted fiscal 2025 comparative statement showing adjusted revenue of $1,312,026.36 and expenses of $1,271,102.56 through March. Commissioners were told the deposit from Story County would appear in April statements. The commission then heard a bank-balance update showing $1,206,768.08 as of May 19, 2025.
Pursuant to NRS 354.598, the commission opened the public hearing on the tentative FY2026 budget; no members of the public spoke. Jennifer McCain, Story County comptroller, summarized changes from the tentative to the final budget, saying, "The changes from the tentative to the final budget are an increase in professional services of $5,000 for additional grant writing, as well in capital outlay, we have an additional 200,000 for, various work on, your track that has been requested that will be funded by the veil tax that Story County receives. So that brings your total capital outlay to, dollars 925,000." After a motion and second, the commission approved the final FY2026 budget unanimously.
