Sheriff's office reports traffic enforcement figures and statewide recognition for drug-recognition experts

Captain Mullis (Union County Sheriff's Office) provided April numbers: 1,033 citations (837 criminal violations, 96 warnings), 36 speeding citations, 64 speeding warnings, 76 no-insurance violations, 36 driving-while-license-revoked charges and 90 no-operator-license charges. The office also worked 125 accidents in April. Mullis highlighted an ongoing forged-tag (fictitious tag) initiative that generated countywide field contacts and concentrated enforcement in Indian Trail.
Mullis also noted the sheriff's office performed strongly at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving awards banquet: three officers from Union County were among the state's top five DRE evaluators for the year, with one current Indian Trail deputy (Jay Murray) reporting 25 evaluations for the year and other top evaluators having ties to Indian Trail.
Council members and the sheriff's representative discussed the relationship between the town and the sheriff's office, with both sides describing it as cooperative. The council also acknowledged that Indian Trail compensates for a portion of dedicated deputies stationed in the town.
