The Liberty Elementary School District Governing Board on May 27 approved a job description renaming the district position from Executive Director of School Effectiveness to Director of School Improvement and directed administration to post the position if approved.
Dr. Mahorn presented background research showing that the title director of school improvement is commonly used in other districts, though she said most districts with that title are larger than Liberty Elementary. The draft job description reflects duties reassigned when the district dissolved a previous coordinator role and consolidated responsibilities into this position.
Board members asked whether the duties added when the educational services coordinator position was dissolved were included in the draft; Dr. Mahorn confirmed the responsibilities were incorporated. Board members also asked about posting timing; Dr. Mahorn said that if the board approved the description that evening administration planned to post the position the following day to begin hiring.
A motion to approve the Director of School Improvement job description passed on a roll call vote of 5–0. The board did not discuss salary or a hiring timeline beyond saying the position would be posted promptly if approved.
The board framed the change as a renaming and consolidation of previously reassigned duties rather than the creation of an entirely new or expanded position. Administration will proceed with posting the position following the board’s approval.
