The North Platte City Planning Commission on May 27 directed staff to return with draft language clarifying off‑street RV parking rules after a resident complained that a newly cut driveway and parked 42‑foot RV adjacent to her bedroom windows blocks light and view.
A resident described the RV and newly created driveway as "blocking our light and our view" and asked the commission to clarify language that currently allows parking in side yards abutting a driveway. Planning staff explained the code allows curb cuts up to 40 feet wide and that, depending on lot configuration, an owner can create a second driveway. Staff said they will propose clearer language and potential offsets or minimum clearances so an RV cannot be parked immediately adjacent to a neighbor’s windows and block light.
Separately, the commission agreed to consider whether adult‑oriented businesses—currently permitted by right in industrial districts and conditional in some commercial districts—should instead be treated consistently as conditional uses. Planning staff will prepare proposals and likely place the matter on a future agenda and public hearing.
Commissioners said proposed changes would be drafted and returned to the commission as either discussion items or public hearings for more formal action. The topics will be scheduled for upcoming meetings so the commission and the public can review draft language.
