Commission approves two additional monument signs in East Village development

The Leawood Planning Commission approved a revised final plan to amend the East Village sign criteria (Case 4825) at its May 27, 2025 meeting, permitting two additional development monument signs at specified corners of the East Village development.
Staff said the proposed amendment would add two development monument signs along 130th Street—one at 130th and Pawnee Lane and one at 130th and High Drive—without changing the previously approved number of vehicular directory signs, multi-tenant monument signs, or directional signs. Staff referenced the Leawood Development Ordinance (section 16-4-6.13) for sign standards and recommended approval with eight stipulations.
Applicant Henry Clover of Clover Architects told commissioners the intent is to provide visible identification for areas of the development where construction is now concentrated and said the applicant accepts the eight stipulations in staff’s report. No public comments were offered during the public hearing.
Commissioner Block moved to approve Case 4825; Commissioner Franze seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote, and the revised sign criteria were approved.
