Councilor Nade introduced a resolution recognizing Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month and described key facts about the condition before the council adopted the resolution by voice vote.
In presenting the resolution, Councilor Nade said, “Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by repetitive involuntary movements and or sounds called tics.” The resolution cites the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that about 1 in 50 school-age children in the United States are affected by Tourette Syndrome or another persistent tic disorder and notes that the condition can persist into adulthood.
The resolution designates May 15, 2025, to June 15, 2025, as Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month in the City of Syracuse and encourages community members to learn about Tourette Syndrome and promote kindness and inclusiveness. The clerk called the roll after the motion; the transcript records the council responding “Aye” and the measure passing unanimously.
The transcript does not include a copy of the full resolution text beyond the language read aloud in the meeting or any accompanying fiscal implications.
