The Sioux Falls School District 49-5 Board of Education on a unanimous vote certified the results of the May 13 school board election and declared Elizabeth Duffy and Nan Kelly the winners.
District staff told the board that four candidates ran for two vacancies and that votes were counted by hand because results were not tabulated automatically by machine. A staff member read vote totals from each polling center during the canvass before the board moved to certify the results.
The district will present certificates of election to the two winners. The board noted that both will assume their positions at the district's annual meeting at the first meeting in July.
The certification followed a formal motion by a board member and a second; the motion carried after members answered "aye." No roll-call vote totals by member were provided in the meeting record.
