Families press police commission on unsolved homicides; community group praises SFPD

During the May 21 San Francisco Police Commission meeting multiple members of the public used the allotted public‑comment period to ask for updates on unsolved homicide investigations and to note frustrations with case follow‑up.

Shantel Rose identified herself and said her son was murdered on Aug. 14, 2006; she told commissioners she had not received recent contact from the assigned lead investigator and described repeated attempts to get information about the case. “My son was murdered August… I’ve been trying to call down there to the homicide to talk to my lead investigator,” Rose said. She and other speakers asked how family members could get updates and emphasized continued attendance at commission meetings.

Another commenter urged attention to unsolved homicides and named individuals she said were responsible, asking the commission to “get these murderers off the street.” The meeting recorder directed listeners with information about the murder of Aubrey Abercasa to the anonymous 24/7 tip line at (415) 575‑4444.

Daniel Joseph Reed, a public commenter, said he remains an active subject of an investigation and asserted that evidence in his case was fabricated in a court affidavit; he asked for an opportunity to speak further with commission staff. Raymond Ross, who identified himself as representing the community group San Francisco Brown Bombers, praised the department’s support for youth programming and commended Chief Scott’s leadership. President Cindy Elias invited Ross to coordinate with the commission secretary to place the organization on a future agenda so the program could be highlighted.

Commission staff and officers offered to follow up offline: President Elias directed Lieutenant Lee to collect contact information from one speaker for follow‑up, and meeting staff reiterated existing channels for submitting information and comments.
