Flint board approves mentorship contract with Dr. Wanda Cook Robinson to support superintendent

She said that, if empowered by the superintendent, she will suggest streamlining or eliminating duplicative vendor work she identifies while working in the district.
Trustees asked about scope and authority. Dr. Robinson said she acts as a tool for the superintendent and will remain within boundaries set by Jones, but that she will offer candid recommendations in private sessions when appropriate. Board members praised her background. In the meeting Dr. Robinson summarized her education and experience, including degrees and prior superintendent roles; trustees characterized her as an experienced practitioner who can help the district pursue grants and programming.
The board approved the proposal by roll call (Treasurer Luna: yes; Trustee King: yes; Vice President McIntyre: yes; Trustee Relleford/Rutherford: yes; Trustee Booth/Boos: yes; Secretary Perkins: yes; President McNeal: yes). The motion passed on a 7-0 vote.
Action taken: Dr. Wanda Cook Robinson will begin a mentorship engagement with Superintendent Kevan Jones, develop a personalized phased plan and coordinate with the district’s academic and CIO teams to support programming, with reporting to the board as agreed.
