Superintendent Kevan Jones told the Flint Board of Education that the district is rolling out a school-focused enrollment and recruitment campaign that includes short videos for social platforms, radio appearances and yard signs, and that consultant Mr. Green will present a separate data briefing to the board in June per his contract.
Jones said the strategy centers on marketing individual schools rather than the district. "Families don't join districts. They join schools," Jones said, adding the district will track views and engagement metrics and report results to the board.
The district said it already has three commercials ready and will produce at least one video for every school; platforms named for distribution include TikTok, Facebook, X and the district website. Jones said the district’s media staff has been filming in schools and that Kim Willis of the district media team has taken a lead role on production.
The board saw a draft principal video from Premier/Homestead Middle School Academy in which principal Donnetta Moore highlighted new classroom furniture, updated lighting, a new HVAC system, an updated gym and a secure front vestibule, and invited families to begin pre-enrollment online or in person. Moore identified the school’s recent National Junior Honor Society induction on May 14, 2025.
Board members asked that the videos be shared with trustees for posting on their own social channels; Jones agreed to distribute the files to the board. The superintendent also said the district will collect event lists so trustees can attend pop-up outreach events; principals, community school directors, attendance agents and central office staff will staff tables and outreach activities.
The campaign will include measurement of views and other engagement data, which the superintendent said the district will capture as it continues the rollout. Mr. Green’s presentation on recruitment analytics is scheduled for June; Jones said Mr. Green is available for earlier conversations if the board requests them.
Next steps: the district will continue filming school videos, distribute materials to the board for local sharing and report back to trustees with engagement metrics and event schedules.
