BATAVIA, Ohio — The Clermont County Board of Commissioners on June 11 proclaimed the day Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Clermont County and declared National Flag Week for June 14, 2025, presenting proclamations to local senior-services representatives and a community flag-day organizer.
Commissioner Bonnie Bachelor read the elder-abuse proclamation noting research and national observances, and signed the proclamation alongside Commissioners David L. Painter and Claire Corcoran. Senior-services staff members Emily Schack (Supportive Services Director), Laura Newberry (Adult Protective Services manager), Marla Catron (APS investigator) and Debbie Hines (APS investigator and I-Team facilitator) were introduced and spoke briefly about local work. The senior-services representative reported the agency received more than 560 referrals in the prior year for abuse, neglect or exploitation and emphasized that elder abuse includes verbal and financial exploitation and that internet-based scams are increasing.
The board also presented a Flag Week proclamation to Ursula Dillon, encouraging citizens to display the American flag and publicizing a Flag Day celebration at Clermont County Airport hosted by Sporties Pilot Shop on Saturday morning. Dillon accepted the proclamation and noted the proximity of Flag Day to Juneteenth and Independence Day.
Why it matters: The elder-abuse proclamation spotlights county adult protective services work and the continuing incidence of referrals; the flag-week proclamation promotes civic observances and a community event.
No formal votes were required for the proclamations beyond the board’s acknowledgment and presentation.
