Piedmont Community Charter celebrates student achievements; lottery and enrollment numbers set for fall

At the start of the May 20 meeting the board highlighted multiple student achievements and enrollment updates.

Awards and recognition: The elementary campus reported its largest booster fundraiser to date with over $36,000 raised to enhance playground equipment. The high school production of West Side Story received Tier 1 recognition at the Blumey Awards and multiple nominations, including best featured performer (Ray Thomas), best supporting actor (Josh Sells), best choreography execution and best direction; the production also received a nomination for best costume design (credited to Charlotte Robert). Tenth grader John Phillips was selected first chair oboe at the 2025 North Carolina All State Honors Band at UNC Greensboro. Middle school band and chorus earned superior ratings at the Carowinds Festival of Music; eighth grader Wesley Enriquez was invited to perform with the Charlotte Concert Band.

Academic recognition and enrollment: The board recognized that 20 seniors will have earned associate degrees from Gaston College through the College Now program by the end of the summer, which the presenter described as an estimated nearly $1 million in college tuition savings for those students. Scholarships presented included the PCCS Scholar Athlete Award recipients Eva Scruggs and Henry Tippett ($1,500 each) and the Ann B. Morgan Memorial Scholarship awarded to senior Kadiyah Phoebe ($1,500).

Enrollment and lottery: The head of school reported 1,901 students enrolled as of May 13 (664 elementary, 632 middle, 605 high school). The board packet reported that 209 seats were awarded for the 2025–26 school year after a record 1,416 lottery applications.
