Budget and millage The council opened and closed a public hearing on the city manager’s proposed FY2025–26 budget and then approved the budget and millage rates by roll-call vote. The motion to approve was carried on a unanimous yes vote by the members present.
Auto dealer forms fee Council approved an administrative fee of $20 in the Community Development Department for completing two mandatory auto-dealer forms submitted to the State of Michigan (a dealer municipal approval form and a zoning approval form). City staff said the fee is $10 per form and is intended to encourage timely submissions by dealers who frequently change ownership.
Commercial rehabilitation exemption The council approved a revision to the commercial rehabilitation exemption certificate for Van Born RE LLC, 31720 Van Born, specifying a five-year exemption with no possibility of extension, at the request of staff after state review of the project paperwork.
Materials recovery facility license Council approved a materials and recovery facility license for a business described in the agenda as "weighing car and truck parts" at 34939 Brush Street. The item was moved and seconded and approved without further amendment.
Donation of fire equipment The council approved donating six air packs, 25 air bottles and 20 masks, equipment the city Fire Department no longer uses, to Twin Lakes Fire in Michigan for regional distribution via volunteer networks. Fire Chief and staff explained National Fire Protection Association guidance calling for an eight-year life cycle for SCBA equipment and said volunteer and smaller departments can often get extra useful service life from older gear. The items will be transported and distributed by volunteers who collect and allocate donated equipment.
Other votes The council also approved routine items on the agenda, including minutes and revenue/expenditure reports.
