The Sykesville Mayor and Town Council on June 9 adopted Ordinance 2025‑O4, amending the town’s adopted fiscal‑year 2025 budget. The council voted unanimously after a brief public hearing at which no members of the public spoke.
Town staff explained the amendment reflects an overall reduction of almost $2,100,000. Most of the change relates to capital projects that are being carried into the next fiscal year; staff said those projects remain planned but will be budgeted in FY2026. The presentation named the use of ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding and ongoing South End of Main Street construction as drivers of timing changes.
Staff also noted a decrease in professional services tied to a grant‑funded project that has shifted to the next fiscal year, and listed donations to the Sykesville Freedom Fire Company and the Downtown Sykesville Connection among line‑item adjustments. The council opened and closed the required public hearing with no public testimony before approving the ordinance.
The motion to adopt Ordinance 2025‑O4 passed unanimously.
