Laredo ISD staff presented two proposed procurement requests to the Curriculum & Instruction Committee for instructional materials and curriculum alignment in reading and writing.
Rogelio Garcia, curriculum and instruction, described RFP 24‑012 for pre‑K through 12 reading/language arts foundations (requested award amount $125,000; historical expenditure shown as $114,674) and RFP 24‑017 for pre‑K through 12 writing foundations and advanced writing skills (requested award amount $35,000; historical expenditure shown as $11,040). Garcia noted the effective periods proposed for the contracts (June 21, 2025–June 20, 2026 for reading materials; Aug. 16, 2025–Aug. 15, 2026 for writing materials) and that multiple funding sources (including Title and local funds) would support the purchases.
At the committee's request, Garcia said the supporting documents contain the vendor names and grade‑level breakdowns for the RFPs and agreed to provide those details to trustees who requested them. Trustee questions focused on which vendors and which grade bands would be covered by each RFP and whether materials were targeted separately at elementary and secondary teachers; Garcia said the vendor and level breakdown was included in the RFP materials provided in the board packet.
No formal procurement approvals were taken at the committee meeting; staff said the RFPs would proceed through the district's procurement process with vendor selection and award through the board consent or action agenda as required by district policy.
