County opens proposals for website redesign; commissioners take submissions under advisement

Penobscot County staff opened responses to an RFP for a county website redesign and platform implementation during the June 3 meeting. The procurement drew a large field: commissioners and IT observed and recorded proposals from more than 20 firms with quoted project costs ranging from the low tens of thousands to six figures depending on services, hosting and optional mobile-app features.
IT and administration described the next step as a technical due-diligence review. Commissioners moved to take the proposals under advisement and asked IT to perform a vendor review and compatibility analysis; the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: The county’s public website is a primary channel for resident services and records. A redesign and platform migration could affect online permitting, public meeting streaming and records access. Bids included one-time project costs and optional annual hosting and maintenance fees.
Next steps: IT will evaluate proposals and conduct vendor due diligence; staff will return with recommendations and a procurement path for the commission’s approval.
