Council rezones about 3.18 acres for Lake Travis Fire Rescue station on Serene Hills Drive

The Lakeway City Council approved a zoning change June 16 to reclassify approximately 3.182 acres on the west side of Serene Hills Drive from R-3 (single-family, zero lot line) to GUI (Government/Utility/Institutional) to permit Lake Travis Fire Rescue (LTFR) to purchase the parcels and locate a new fire station.
Building services staff presented the request and said LTFR intends to acquire the land from Water District 17. The parcels (identified by TCAD property IDs in the staff presentation) abut a commercial lot owned by H-E-B and sit across from water-tank construction on Serene Hills. Staff stated the rezoning conforms to the city—s comprehensive plan future land-use map and to the parks/trails master plan (the site lies within a half-mile buffer of Serene Hills Park).
Staff noted that the city—s thoroughfare plan shows a planned expansion of Serene Hills to four lanes from Highway 71 to Flint Rock; planning staff said the proposed fire station site is consistent with anticipated right-of-way improvements and nearby commercial uses.
No members of the public addressed the item. The council moved and seconded approval of the zoning ordinance; the motion carried unanimously, 6-0.
The adoption brings the property into conformity with the comprehensive plan and clears the regulatory step before LTFR conducts engineering and site work.
