Commissioner Webb reports regional 'Mobility 2050' adoption and DART withdrawal discussion at RTC

Commissioner Webb reported to Collin County Commissioners Court that the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Regional Transportation Council (RTC) approved Mobility 2050, the region’s five-year-updated mobility plan, and that the council spent much of its meeting debating the implications of possible Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) withdrawal elections.
"We approved Mobility 2,050, which is a mobility plan for the region," Webb said, adding that projects must appear as a line on the plan’s map to be eligible for regional funding. Webb said the plan updates population projections and congestion forecasts and that Collin County is central in regional growth projections.
Webb said the RTC’s meeting included a lengthy, philosophical discussion about where regional leadership should go after state legislation that would have changed DART’s financial model failed to pass. He said several cities that are DART members could hold withdrawal elections in 2026 and that the RTC must consider regional approaches to provide mobility in fast-growing municipalities that are not part of a transit authority.
The update was informational; no related formal action was taken by the Collin County Commissioners Court during the report. Commissioners invited questions after the report.
