UW Extension reports campus activity, SNAP‑Ed funding uncertainty and summer youth programs

Miranda Gentry Siegel, newly named campus executive for the UW Wausau campus, and other UW Extension staff updated the committee on campus activity and program developments, including continued registration for fall classes, Upward Bound programming and summer 4‑H camps.
Gentry Siegel said Upward Bound will run next week with 34 students registered—an increase from the prior year—and that campus orientation is scheduled for Aug. 25. UW Extension staff also highlighted FoodWIse (SNAP‑Ed) programming that provides nutrition education funded through a federal SNAP‑Ed allocation; the presenters said that, as of the meeting, SNAP‑Ed funding had not been included in House agricultural appropriation language and the status remained uncertain at the federal level.
UW Extension staff asked supervisors to be aware that SNAP‑Ed funds support educators and programming across most Wisconsin counties and that loss of federal SNAP‑Ed funding would affect local outreach, including farmers market EBT supports and nutrition education. Extension indicated it could provide additional data on participation and staffing if the committee wishes.
No committee vote was required on the report; members thanked staff and congratulated Gentry Siegel on her new role as campus executive.
