The Wausau Common Council on June 10 approved a finance resolution allowing the city to proceed with construction change orders for airport terminal renovations as a temporary city-funded project administered through the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics. The council voted 11-0.
Finance committee members said approximately 95% of the project costs are expected to be reimbursed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics, contingent on the agencies' assurances. The resolution authorizes the city to cover interim costs estimated at $135,000 until reimbursement occurs.
City staff and finance committee members outlined the typical timing discrepancy between contractor payments and state/federal reimbursements and described the authorization as a routine mechanism to keep the project on schedule. The finance committee had unanimously recommended the action.
The council motion was moved by Alder Watson with a second from Alder Henke. Council members congratulated airport staff on the project and urged timely cooperation with BOA and FAA to secure reimbursement.
