Council removes quarter-block rental provision from 400 Block special-events policy

The Wausau Common Council on June 10 approved a public health and safety resolution amending the cityspecial events policy to remove a clause that allowed the 400 Block to be rented out in quarter increments to private groups and to remove specific fee language from the policy.
City staff told alderpersons the park department rarely rents the 400 Block to private groups in quartered segments, and the clause was seldom used. The revision removes the antiquated quartering provision and replaces fee language in the policy with a reference to the citycomprehensive fee schedule so fees can be updated administratively without changing the policy.
Alder Killian asked for clarity on whether private rentals would still be allowed and whether a 25% fee reduction referenced in older language would be removed; staff said the block can still be rented, but it is not typical to rent it in quarters for private events, and applicable fees will be set by the comprehensive fee schedule.
The council approved the amendment unanimously, 11-0. The item had been pulled from consent for discussion and was returned under resolutions and ordinances; the council noted the practical effect was limited because the practice being removed was rarely used.
