Staff described options that would make the agreement more outcome-oriented: a consistent pricing/rental schedule, standardized participation reporting (including demographic or residency markers when available) and performance measures that track student and public attendance. Commissioners suggested a positive, point-based rubric for partnership scoring that would reward community engagement, collaboration with schools and outreach rather than operate as a punitive checklist.
Commissioners also discussed programming mix: while many appreciated Englewood Arts' classical offerings, some said they would like to see more diversity of performance genres and family-friendly events. Staff said the proposal would not dictate programming content but would instead collect data and offer incentives for broader offerings.
Funding and operations: staff said Englewood Arts currently raises funds through ticket sales and fundraising and benefits from the city-provided rehearsal and performance space. The commission discussed whether the city should set rental or pricing rules for nonprofit use of the hall and whether the contract should formally require more regular reporting to the city.
Next steps: staff will compile historical performance lists and participation data, then return with draft reporting fields and suggested contract language in July. The commission asked staff to circulate Englewood Arts' recent performance calendar so members unfamiliar with the organization can review prior programming before the next meeting.
