Councilmember Chick told colleagues the settlement resolves a “long standing disagreement” between the district and the city and that the school district will dismiss its lawsuit if the council adopts the ordinances that form part of the settlement. City staff and the city attorney were at the dais to answer questions about the four years of paperwork that preceded the agreement.
City Attorney staff recommended adoption of the ordinances as the basis for the settlement. Chick moved the item; the council first approved the ordinances 13-0. Later, at the request of the city attorney, the council reconsidered and moved to authorize the city attorney to sign the settlement agreement on behalf of the city and to send the item forthwith; that motion passed 14-0.
Council members recorded no amendments on the record; staff confirmed the school district had authorized settlement on those terms. The ordinances were adopted and the city attorney was authorized to execute the settlement documents.
