Danica (staff) said Nogales has been used as an informal drop-off/babysitting location when open Saturdays, so staff prefer opening Saturdays for specific programs and with volunteer support rather than general unsupervised drop-off. Board members noted policy that children should not be left unattended; staff said the library has had incidents requiring police response when children were left alone.
Rio Rico updates: staff reported a small construction project—the removal/opening between stacks to create a small room—has gone out to bid through the deputy supervisor Chris Young. The community room at the fairgrounds is available for reservations through the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds/rodeo association after library hours.
Sonoita updates: staff said the telephone system is now working and that printing currently requires emailing documents to the branch address for staff to print; there is a per-copy fee (15¢ black-and-white, 30¢ color). Staff explained the public workstations are on county-managed systems and do not allow direct printing from branch PCs; patrons may email documents from branch computers for staff to print.
Friends of the Library reported they have produced bookmarks created by Renee Curran and are monitoring 15 Little Free Libraries where community members are beginning to leave books. Friends are considering grant applications (including South32) but are pausing to identify a specific project before applying.
The board agreed to consider Saturday hours for special programming and to explore volunteer agreements and policy clarifications before expanding regular weekend hours.
