“There's currently a situation with Beach Garden that, you know, there's an arrear that was owed roughly about 10,000, $513,” Senator Manolo said, adding that the mayor had paid part of the debt and an outstanding balance of about $3,900 remained. Manolo said the arrears stem from obligations under a previous administration and that the owner asked the delegation for help resolving the remaining balance. He said he would submit the original documents to the clerk for the delegation’s consideration at a future session.
Chairman Magnolia acknowledged the submission for the record and Senator Manolo said he would provide the original copy to the clerk so every member would receive the information.
During announcements, the floor leader shared a bulletin from the office of U.S. Delegate Kimberly King Hines notifying residents of upcoming constituent services: Friday, June 13 at the Roundhouse (1:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m.) and Wednesday, June 18 at the Mayor’s Office conference hall (1:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m.). The bulletin said no appointments are needed and services will cover Social Security and disability, veterans affairs, passport and immigration follow-up, IRS and Federal Student Aid inquiries.
Members also discussed passport processing capacity: a delegation member said passport representatives might be sent to Rota by late June or early July due to limited personnel. The clerk and other members noted the Saipan Chamber of Commerce is offering scholarships to students from Rota and Tinian for attendance at NMC or NMTI with an application deadline of June 30.
No formal votes or actions on the Beach Garden request were recorded during the session; Senator Manolo said he will submit documentation for the delegation to consider at a subsequent meeting.
