District reports $250,000 distribution from East Bay collaborative liquidation; lists summer construction projects

The Portsmouth School Committee received a year‑to‑date revenues and expenditures report through April that included a $250,000 unbudgeted distribution the district received after the liquidation of the East Bay Educational Collaborative.
“EBeck’s board voted to shut down and liquidate its assets,” district finance staff told the committee, and the collaborative’s largest asset — its office building — was sold; the committee was briefed that member districts each received a $250,000 distribution from the proceeds. The distribution was presented as an unbudgeted member distribution in April’s report.
Superintendent Kenworthy also highlighted planned summer construction work across the district tied to prior bond and maintenance planning. Major projects listed for summer 2025 include replacement of the Hathaway septic system and completion of the Hathaway playground renovation; completion of two restroom projects at Portsmouth Middle School (the final projects tied to the 2021 bond); and replacement of the long‑awaited roof at Portsmouth High School scheduled to begin at the end of the school year. Staff also said an electric panel replacement at PHS is planned and will be staged to keep the building functional.
Kenworthy reminded the committee the district’s last day of school is June 18 and noted summer programming will continue at sites while projects proceed. The superintendent also called attention to an upcoming town budget hearing on June 11 and said the finance report will be posted for the committee’s review.
No formal vote was recorded on the revenue report during the meeting; the presentation was informational and accepted by the committee as part of routine year‑end business.
