Fine arts, theater and athletics: district reports spring season successes and state recognitions

The Board heard a combined report on fine arts and athletics at the June 4 meeting that highlighted student achievements across music, visual art, theater and interscholastic sports.
Fine arts director Ken Bagley told the board the district hosted an art show that drew more than 1,500 visitors over two nights and received donated collections of artwork for display; the district was again recognized as a Best Community for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation. Bagley listed regional and state honors for students in band, chorus and theater and named multiple seniors and groups selected for regional festivals and state-level awards. He also noted the district passed 11 fine-arts curriculum revisions this year.
Athletic student leaders from Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern presented winter and spring season recaps, citing team records and individual honors across sports including baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, track and field, tennis and golf. Highlights included conference championships, individual all-conference recognitions and several teams qualifying for state tournaments. Student-athlete leaders emphasized team bonding and community service work that accompanies athletics.
Board members thanked students and coaches for their presentations and praised the community for supporting large arts and athletics events.
