Board approves multiple curriculum revisions, adds family support materials and updated assessments

The Bristol Board of Education on June 4 approved a package of curriculum revisions across grade levels and subject areas intended to align instruction with updated materials, improve formative assessment and expand family supports.
Approved revisions included an updated Algebra I (academic) sequence aligned to Illustrative Mathematics version 3, with restored unit sequencing for linear functions and added common formative assessments; Grades 3–5 math revisions that move toward a 360 curriculum and add family-facing videos in nine languages; an Intro to Career Work Experience (CWE) course designed to prepare students for internships and industry credentials (OSHA, CPR and others); and a Construction Technology course reworked so it can be offered to students in grades 9–12 without a separate prerequisite.
Board members were also presented with a revised AP Psychology course aligned to changes from the College Board and an updated Law and Justice elective revised to align with social studies standards and dual-enrollment pathway plans. Teaching and learning staff told the board teachers and coaches participated in multi-day curriculum writing sessions and that many of the revisions included clearer success criteria, embedded universal design for learning strategies and updated pacing guidance.
Administrators said family-support materials and translated resources are part of the revisions so parents can better support student learning at home. The board approved each revision as presented; staff will publish the final curriculum documents and family resources ahead of the 2025–26 school year.
