Applicant Kara Willis explained the request was necessary because Front Street is a dead-end turnaround and could create traffic and safety issues if left open during the event. Willis said the street closure would be limited to the portion past the waterfront driveway and that no food or beverages would be served on town property; the closure was requested to provide overflow parking and event space adjacent to the pavilion.
Town staff confirmed the applicant had completed the required form, paid the fee, and provided liability insurance. The council made a motion to close Front Street on July 12 from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; members voted in favor by voice vote. Council and staff discussed barricade placement and agreed the town would provide or approve cones/barricades and that the police department would assist with enforcement as needed.
The approval is conditioned on the event maintaining compliance with the town's insurance and permit requirements and enforcing the noise ordinance after 11:30 p.m.
