The Centerville Town Council on June 5 approved a request from farmers-market organizer Jennifer Moore to try a Tuesday evening market and to permit use of Broadway for a larger June 29 event with the Water's Edge Museum from Oxford, contingent on a meeting between the market and town staff.
Jennifer Moore told the council she planned a limited Tuesday evening market (4 to 6 p.m.) with about six vendors, using parking spaces near the memorial rather than closing Lawyers Row or Broadway. Moore said the evening trial responds to vendor and shopper interest and that the market recently received approval to accept SNAP and WIC, which she and staff plan to publicize.
For June 29 Moore asked to use Broadway that morning during market hours to accommodate a potentially larger crowd (she estimated up to 100 people) and to permit vendors and the Water's Edge Museum to set up items in front of the courthouse. Council members said they would conditionally approve both requests if the market and town hold a meeting to coordinate logistics, safety, and public perception; the motion made the approval contingent on that meeting.
Council and staff discussed specific vendor-space locations. The council and organizer agreed to limit vendor numbers to keep parking impacts smaller; during discussion they settled on using short-term spaces on Lawyers Row as a preferable fallback to the busy Commerce/Alibi corner. The council approved the conditional motion by voice vote.
The council asked Moore to provide a more detailed plan or a map in follow-up and to coordinate with police and town staff about parking, safety signage, and any temporary closures or no-parking enforcement needed during the June 29 event.
