Elyria City Board approves resolution to place $6.38 million emergency levy on Nov. 4 ballot

The Elyria City Board of Education voted June 4 to place a 10-year emergency levy question before district voters on the Nov. 4, 2025 ballot.

The board approved a resolution to submit "the question of an additional levy in excess of the 10-mill limitation for the purpose of providing for the emergency requirements of the school district" to raise $6,381,390 per year, which the board said would produce an auditor'certified millage of about 4.9 mills if approved. The board cited Ohio Revised Code Section 5705.194 when moving the question to the ballot.

Why it matters: If passed by voters, the levy would provide the district an additional revenue stream estimated at $6.38 million annually and would be collected beginning in calendar year 2026, according to the motion read during the meeting.

During the motion the board member reading the recommended action said the levy would be on the Nov. 4, 2025 ballot and would, if approved, be collected in calendar year 2026. The board then voted to approve submission of the question to the electors.
