Cullman County Schools approves consent agenda and personnel changes; recognizes state champions and new staff

Superintendent Dr. Barnett opened several agenda motions and recommended approval of the May minutes and subsequent consent items, which passed by voice vote.
The board recognized members of a state-champion team and invited students and coaches to speak briefly. Dozens of new or reassigned employees introduced themselves to the board, including principals, assistant principals, teachers, bus drivers and career-technical instructors.
"I recommend the approval of the May minutes," Superintendent Dr. Barnett said when opening the consent agenda. The board voted to approve item 1 (May minutes); personnel items 2 through 11; school and central-office requests listed in items 12 through 31; financial statements in items 32 and 33; the out-of-state field trip listed in item 34 (approved retroactively); transportation department items 35 through 37; and item 38 authorizing disposal or sale by sealed bid of nonoperational or obsolete technology and related equipment for the 2024–25 school year. Each motion was recorded as passing by voice vote with no roll-call tallies provided.
Dr. Barnett used his superintendent's report to give operational updates: summer math and reading camps have started; projects at Hanceville Middle School and the Child Development Center are underway; and bids for Good Hope Elementary open the week after the meeting. "I'm more excited about this fall than I've ever been excited about our school system," Dr. Barnett said, noting that the district will have 10 new principals and 10 new assistant principals for the coming school year.
The board also recognized Jeff Harper for his years of service in multiple roles, including as transportation director; Harper said he is retiring and will assist part time during the transition. The board announced its next regular meeting will be Thursday, July 17, 2025, with a work session at 3:30 p.m. followed immediately by the meeting.
