Broadband and Public Works staff briefed the council on the Tuttle fiber network: staff reported approximately 3,077 service locations in the network inventory, about 75% of those locations had been installed with service available and roughly 2,100 active paying customers.
Jeremy (broadband operations) said the department will soon replace the router to enable multi-gig services; the swap is expected in July once parts arrive and will require a short service outage while staff switch traffic to the new device. Staff also noted the budget showed a single-month revenue shortfall caused by new inventory purchases and a router purchase; they said the gap was expected to reverse when inventory is deployed and billed.
Staff answered questions about competing OEC (Oklahoma Electric Cooperative) trunk installation in areas outside city limits and confirmed OEC is installing conduit but not actively running fiber to customer premises inside the city's service area. Council members pressed for continued monitoring of customer churn, locate calls to prevent fiber cuts and the new router delivery schedule.
