The Maui County Council on June 12 adopted Resolution 25-126 to appoint Dwight Burns to the Independent Nomination Board, voting 6-0 with three members excused.
Councilmember Lehi Hagen moved to discharge the Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee and then moved to adopt Resolution 25-126. The council amended the resolution to place Dwight Burns on Exhibit B for approval with a term expiring March 31, 2026; Vice Chair Yukile Sugimura seconded the amended motion.
Hodgins (the motioning member) told colleagues the item had been scheduled for committee but had to be handled on the floor to meet filing deadlines. After members confirmed they had the opportunity to meet the nominee previously and had reviewed his application, the council voted to approve the appointment.
The motion to adopt Resolution 25-126 as amended passed 6 ayes, 0 nos; Councilmembers Tom Cook, Shane Senesi and Keani Rollins Fernandez were recorded as excused. No public testimony was recorded on this item during the special meeting.
