Wayne County medical examiner reports faster histology turnaround, same‑day cremation approvals

Charlie Rose, vetting director for the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, told the county Human Services Committee the office accepted 897 decedents and assumed jurisdiction in 652 cases for the quarter Oct. 1–Dec. 31, 2024. “428 full complete autopsies, a 199 of those were inspections, and 25 of those were limited autopsies,” Rose said. He said 300 cases from that quarter were submitted for histology and the average histology turnaround time was 5.8 days. Rose said 300 of the 652 accepted cases were finalized within 9.4 days and the remaining 112 averaged 28 days.
