RTC backs CAMPO 5339 bus-vehicle application with 20% local match commitment

The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission voted to request that CAMPO submit an FTA Section 5339 bus and bus facility program (5339B) competitive application on behalf of the RTC for an ADA-compliant transit vehicle, with the RTC pledging to provide the required 20% local match if the grant is awarded.
Marcus Myers, Transit Coordinator, said the 5339A apportionment would provide $122,280 toward the vehicle with a local match of $21,579 for a total of $143,859, but that the apportionment alone would not cover the full cost of an ADA-compliant vehicle. Staff therefore requested approval to provide an additional $22,228 in local match to CAMPO for a competitive 5339B application to cover the remaining vehicle cost.
Commissioners asked what would happen if the competitive 5339B award is not received. Myers replied that staff could program the vehicle purchase through the RTC’s standard 5307 apportionment (the local operating apportionment) if the competitive application is unsuccessful, though that would use funds otherwise available for operations and services.
Commissioner Schuette moved to approve Resolution 2025-RTC-R-2 and request that CAMPO submit a 5339B application with the RTC providing the 20% local match; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. Staff also noted the same typographical adoption-year error in the resolution exhibit and said they would correct it.
